The Body Electric

I saw this earlier in the week and didn’t remember it until I went through some pictures…

Sorry for the unsteady hand.
Apologies for the unsteady hand.

Anyone want to go to Mollie’s tonight?

Dodo Bird ~ Yojimbo

I have discovered that video editing is a time consuming process.  Especially without software.  Fortunately, my Sisyphean relationship with technology yields a little more progress every round.  So I just need to keep learning.

Tupeloyojimbo2014I went to The Blue Canoe in Tupelo last night to catch Yojimbo a second time.  (Note: Word’p’ress spell check does not recognize Tupelo as a proper noun and yet, corrects WordPress automatically.)  Driving an hour and a half to see a show is fairly uncommon for me personally.  I’m not really the “We’re drivin’ to Florida!” guy in the group.  This time the stars aligned perfectly.  Continue reading Dodo Bird ~ Yojimbo

Yojimbo w/ Dave Cousar @ The Buccaneer 6/24/2014

This must be India because HOLY COW.  I don’t even know where to start so I guess the beginning works best…

I went out last night looking for something low key to get started.  Chess night at The Lamplighter is always a good choice.  From there, I was launched into an evening of the unexpected.

Yo Jim Bo !

Alright…   I have no business up this late.  But I just couldn’t sleep until I got at least one video uploaded.  This is just a small taste of what you missed at the Buccaneer last night.  Stay tuned for a potential special double post spread.  (Not the dirty kind.)

Bag O’Bones … at the Bucc

Whew, I’m going to need at least 3 more winds before Thursday.

Let’s Go to the Movies

My adventure from last night is far too sordid to discuss here.  So, I want to bring up the two best sources of movie-watching in Memphis: Black Lodge Video and the Orpheum Summer Movie Series.  For completely different reasons, each of these venues represent a mandatory Memphis experience.

When I was in high school, the AFI released an official list of the 100 greatest movies of the 20th century.  Qualifying their choices with “the past 100 years” seemed a bit banal considering the American movie industry didn’t get churning until the 40s, but I suppose that’s just semantics.  Anyway, back then I lived out on the border of Germantown – which is what people referred to Easternmost Memphis as before Cordova and Bartlett started really growing.  There’s a little Malco theater out there called the Ridgeway Four.

Horn Tootin!

ALERT! ALERT!

Hell, I'll probably be in Tupelo Wednesday night too!
Hell, I’ll probably be in Tupelo Wednesday night too!

I completely missed this somehow.  I just learned that Yojimbo! is playing the Buccaneer tomorrow evening at 10PM.  This group from NOLA is a must see!  Not only will I be there, but you will see me dancing.

Come find me and I’ll take your picture. =D

Pre-Owned Heart ~ Diamond Rings

Wow.  The weekend was so much fun I barely remember last week.  I also have a terrible memory, so it’s not as severe as it sounds.  This weblog turns 3 weeks old this Thursday, but it feels like it’s been months since the beginning of June.  It’s been a pretty hectic time for me – attempting to do/see/hear everything within a 10 mile radius gets challenging at times.  Fortunately, I’m not someone that backs down from a challenge.

Climb Out of the Darkness 2014: Team Memphis

Yesterday, around 8:30AM, Memphis participated in Climb Out of the Darkness for the first time.  This non-profit event, started by Postpartum Progress in 2013, is the largest effort to raise awareness of perinatal mood disorders.  In only one year, the event has grown from 177 participants to well over 1,000 climbers.  In addition to that, the amount of money raised this year more than tripled the amount from 2013.  Continue reading Climb Out of the Darkness 2014: Team Memphis

Photography and Pop Art

I didn’t go out last night.  Oddly, I feel guilty about it.  I deprived myself of yet another opportunity to listen to The Memphis Dawls – and somewhere as great as Bar DKDC no less.   *sigh* C’est la vie!  I was exhausted from the COTD event that morning and sometimes you just need a chance to sit down and go through your pictures, right?

That reminds me, I got a new camera a few days ago.  It’s a little Nikon point-and-shoot but, compared to its predecessor, might as well be a digital SLR.  That pretty much covers all the lingo I was able to glean when I visited Memphis Photo Supply for advice on what to buy.  These guys are not only knowledgeable, but also incredibly patient.  I spent smart money on my needs, instead of just getting the best buy.  (pun thoroughly intended) Continue reading Photography and Pop Art
